Head of Child Safety Products
Position Overview
We are seeking a senior platform builder to lead the Child Safety Products function from the ground up—defining the strategy, operating model, and initial product portfolio for LEGO Digital Play. This role will own the roadmap and delivery of the technology capabilities that keep children safe while enabling joyful social and creative play.
Child safety policy is defined in a dedicated Policy function; this role is accountable for implementing policy into product and platform solutions, translating requirements into scalable systems, and holding release veto rights within the agreed policy framework. The platform will support user-generated content, real-time communication, and multiplayer experiences across multiple game teams and digital products within the LEGO Digital Play ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Child Safety Products portfolio end-to-end: strategy, multi-year roadmap, prioritisation, and delivery across all LDP digital experiences.
• Implement child safety policy at scale: translate policy requirements into product specs, platform capabilities, release gates, and operational processes; exercise veto rights within the policy framework.
• Deliver the first 6–12 month priorities: (1) Age & Parent Controls MVP, (2) Moderation proof-of-concept and operational readiness, and (3) a reusable Safety Patterns Library for game teams to adopt.
• Build a “safety-by-design” enablement model: reusable patterns, APIs, guardrails, templates, and onboarding so product teams can ship safely with minimal reinvention.
• Own moderation and enforcement readiness in partnership with operational teams: workflows, escalation paths, incident management, tooling, and performance measurement.
• Own vendor strategy and partnerships: evaluate, select, integrate, and manage vendors (e.g., age assurance, moderation tooling, detection/enforcement) to achieve outcomes, quality, and cost targets.
• Define and operationalise safety metrics and reporting: risk reduction and compliance dashboards, leading indicators, and executive-level visibility on safety outcomes and readiness.
• Partner with internal and partner game studios to enable adoption of central safety capabilities, ensuring teams can integrate safety services through APIs, SDKs, and reusable platform components.
• Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team across product, engineering, analytics, and policy-to-product compliance (excluding policy authorship).
Qualifications
Educational, Certifications, or Licenses Required
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in computer science, engineering, product, data/analytics, or a related field.
MUST HAVE – Minimum Candidate Qualifications
• Proven leadership in child safety / trust & safety / online safety for consumer digital products, ideally with social and/or UGC-enabled features.
• Demonstrated platform-building experience delivering reusable safety capabilities (controls, enforcement systems, tooling, patterns) across multiple product surfaces.
• Strong technical literacy across platform architecture, AI/ML moderation technologies, and large-scale distributed systems used to detect and enforce safety signals.
• Strong ability to translate policy into implementable requirements, engineering roadmaps, and release governance; comfort holding the line on compliance.
• Experience building and operating moderation and enforcement systems, including human-in-the-loop processes, escalation design, and incident response.
• Data-driven approach: define safety outcome metrics, instrument systems, and run measurable iteration cycles to reduce risk and improve compliance.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and scale org capability through hiring, coaching, and clear operating rhythms.
• Excellent stakeholder management across product, engineering, legal/compliance, privacy, and operations; able to drive alignment in complex orgs.
• Executive-level communication skills with strong judgment on risk, trade-offs, and readiness.
NICE TO HAVE – Candidate Qualifications
• Experience shipping age and parental controls and/or age assurance/verification solutions in regulated contexts.
• Experience in games, creative platforms, or kid/family ecosystems at global scale.
• Hands-on experience with vendor procurement and contract/SLAs for trust & safety tooling and services.
• Familiarity with privacy-by-design, security-by-design, and AI/ML safety considerations in moderation/enforcement systems.
