Head of Developer Platform
LEGO Digital Play is building a proprietary, brand-aligned development platform that will bring digital LEGO to life and deliver a trusted foundation for internal and external developers to build on.
We are seeking a Director to lead the Developer Platform. In this role, you will own the studio-facing platform that translates the LEGO System in Play into usable development capabilities, including SDKs, libraries, policy services, data standards, engine integration, and developer tooling.
You will define the platform roadmap, lead the team that builds and operates it, and help raise the quality bar across all LEGO digital experiences built on the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Set product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Developer Platform so it becomes a de facto standard for LEGO digital experience development.
Lead the team building and operating the SDK, libraries, APIs, developer tooling, documentation, reference implementations for multiple engine integrations, and support models for internal and external studios.
Own the platform architecture, digital asset standards, metadata, and compatibility.
Own validation services for brand compliance ensuring these are versioned, reliable, and easy for studios to integrate.
Partner with product and game teams on migration and adoption plans.
Lead the shape and evolution of the platform operating model, including service reliability, release management, and observability for business-critical services.
Build and manage the external ecosystem across partners, vendors, and service providers where these accelerate adoption or improve the studio experience.
Build a high-performing organisation, define success metrics, and work closely with game makers to ensure the platform measurably improves quality, speed, and enables reuse across the portfolio.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong leadership experience building and scaling a platform product and engineering roadmap from concept through live operations
Deep systems architecture expertise across SDKs, APIs, runtime services, data formats, asset pipelines, and developer workflows for game and creator ecosystems.
Experience building platform capabilities and compliance services, including rules engines, entitlement systems, and interoperability frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to drive cross-portfolio adoption by aligning senior stakeholders, setting standards, managing dependencies, and creating reusable capabilities.
Experience building and leading high-performing multidisciplinary teams, including software engineering, technical product management, developer experience, and partner delivery.
Strong understanding of governance across security, privacy, trust and safety, moderation, IP and brand controls, and child-safe or regulated digital environments.
Ability to translate a strategic platform vision into a clear operating model, roadmap, success metrics, and studio-facing service model.
Experience working closely with internal and external studios, partners, or enterprise customers, with strong communication and influencing skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in games and engine integration, such as with Unity or Unreal, or comparable authoring tools.
Nice to have:
Experience with UGC platforms or Creator Tools, or comparable digital content ecosystems.
Experience building or operating rules-based validation systems for content, policy, or certification use cases.
Experience with hybrid physical-digital products, hardware integrations, or connected-play platforms.
Experience building brand-safe or regulated consumer ecosystems, including content moderation and partner governance.
